VAL SKELTON

Biography: Val is responsible for developing TFPL’s strategic learning events and products. She designs, develops and delivers:

facilitated workshops
senior level executive briefings
development programmes for teams and individuals
facilitated forums that help people develop action plans
facilitated scenario planning based workshops

She is also responsible for the development of TFPL's Knowledge and Information Skills Toolkit, a web-based diagnostic toolkit focused on core knowledge and information roles. The Toolkit enables the user to
assess the relative importance of different skills in particular roles and to measure these against the skills levels already available. These assessments are represented graphically in the form of a spidergram
that illustrates at a glance the skills profile needed and skills gaps. She also wrote, with Angela Abell, TFPL's Knowledge and Information Management Competency Dictionary.

Val has a background in publishing and information science, and worked on the library and information science list at Bowker-Saur for eight years, developing books and journals for an international audience.

She is a member of the SLA and a Fellow of the RSA.

Title: Skills and knowledge for the 21st century

In this workshop, Jacky and Val will lead you through a process to identify eight skills development priorities for the next six months, assess your current skills levels and focus on development  opportunities.   As part of this process, they will introduce you to a simple 'coaching model' and delegates will work in pairs to develop a personal action plan.  This workshop involves the use of glue and felt tip pens, which will be provided!
