Previous roles have included Head of Information Service at the Wellcome Trust, and Head of Library Services, Buckinghamshire College of Nursing and Midwifery.

Sally is a chartered librarian with a Masters in Business Administration and the Diploma of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Title: Managing the e-library

Summary: NHS England now procures electronic databases and journals centrally, on behalf of its 1.2 million staff, through the National Core Content project.   The work has achieved significant cost savings and has made access available much more seamlessly for end users.

We now have the potential to explore national procurement in other areas, such as document delivery and library management systems – but how far can centralisation be taken without weakening the quality of service received by end users?   And how will the role of the librarian, and the decisions they take on local service delivery, change?

This session will explore these NHS initiatives and discuss transferability to other sectors.   It will cover:

  • Electronic resources in the NHS – before and after centralisation;
  • Carrying out a national procurement for e-resources and the benefits to be gained from wide area collaboration;
  • Potential developments over the next three years;
  • The changing role of local library services;
  • Interactive session on moving from print to electronic resources in collection development;
  • Feedback from delegates.
