ROBINA CLAYPHAN

Biography:
Robina Clayphan is Bibliographic
Standards Coordinator at the British Library. She is responsible
for ensuring that the Library adopts a harmonised approach to its
support and use of standards for resource
discovery and related collection management functions. She chairs
the
Libraries Working Group of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative and
represents the British Library on several national and international
standards committees and working groups. Before joining the Library
in
1996 she worked in various roles promoting and supporting the use
of
Information Technology in the curriculum in higher education.

Summary:
This presentation looks at the use
of Dublin Core application profiles at the British Library as part
of a resource discovery strategy. It
shows how they have the potential to be used to control the
proliferation of metadata formats in digitisation activity and provide
interoperability at a high level between diverse legacy systems.
