as the third chair of the Library History group in 1977.

advisor on historic libraries and in the field of library history
generally. He is the General Editor of the three-volume Cambridge

Title:
A revision of Munford's Who
Was Who in British Librarianship
Summary:
W.A. Munford's Who Was Who in
British Librarianship 1800-1985 , published by the Library
Association in 1987, presents brief biographical data for over 1500
senior members of the profession. It is an invaluable source
of reference, with some short profiles of prominent figures known
to Munford. Twenty years after its closing date, a new edition
is desirable, both to include librarians who died after 1985 and
to add new historical information that has come to light more recently.
The challenges of revising a classic work after the death of the
compiler will be examined.
