MARGARET HAINES

Biography:
Originally from Canada, Margaret
has been in the UK for over 15 years. She is the Director of Information
Services and Systems at King's College London. She was previously
in the Department of Health, first as NHS Library Adviser, then
Director of Research and Knowledge Management in the South East
Region and finally as Acting Director of Knowledge Management for
the NHS Modernisation Agency. Margaret was also the Chair
of the Working Party developing the National Knowledge Service for
the NHS. Previous posts include Head of Information Resources
at the King's Fund in London and Chief Executive of the Library
and Information Commission, a national policy body.
Margaret's
main professional interests are knowledge management, evidence-based
practice, NHS/HE collaboration and national information policy,
and she has published and presented on these topics in the UK and
abroad.
Margaret is the Past-President of CILIP – the Chartered
Institute for Library and Information Professionals ( www.cilip.org.uk
). She is also the incoming Chair of the SCONUL Health Strategy
Group and a member of the ESRC's Communications and Information Panel.

A Case Study from King's College London
Summary:
Evidence-based practice is important
for all professions including the library and information profession.
This paper will review the concepts of evidence-based information
practice and why EBIP is important for professional growth. It will
also illustrate how EBIP can be applied in a university environment
as part of an overall information and knowledge strategy, and how
EBIP can help at operational level in a converged library, archives
and IT department.
