GILLIAN ROWELL

Biography: Gill Rowell is Support Officer for the JISC-funded Plagiarism Advisory Service, and provides guidance and training on using the TurnitinUK plagiarism detection software to HE and FE institutions.  She is also a qualified librarian, and previously worked as Team Librarian (Bibliographic Services) at Northumbria University library before joining the Plagiarism Advisory Service in 2002.

Title: Deterring and detecting plagiarism

Summary: Plagiarism is increasingly seen as a concern for educators, and is often attributed to the growing use of the Internet in teaching and learning. This session will look at some of the wider issues associated with plagiarism, and will enable delegates to discuss a range of strategies, in line with the holistic approach of the national Plagiarism Advisory Service for preventing plagiarism. The session will also include a demonstration of the TurnitinUK plagiarism detection software.
