Exhibitor showcase presentations

New for 2005 was a series of Showcase Presentations made by leading supplier companies in a dedicated area situated alongside the Information Lounge on the ground floor of the Renold Building.  The aim was to enable delegates to see the very latest technology in action and to discuss their requirements with the vendors.

Each presentation lasted 15 minutes and entry wasfree to delegates with seating on a first-come first-served basis.  The following companies made their presentations on Friday 1 July 2005.  All sessions were received well and attendance almost reached maximum capacity on all 5 sessions.  Details of those companies who took part are listed below.

  • Civica - is a leading supplier of library automation solutions with more than two decades of experience.  Its Spydus software provides a total information management solution in a single product.
  • Ovid Technologies - is a leading provider of information solutions for the medical, scientific and academic communities.
  • ProQuest - providers of high-quality information services in electronic, microform and print-on-demand formats to academic institutions, public and government libraries and schools
  • Talis - provides software to track the borrowing history of 8m UK students and citizens, through libraries with 9,000 staff users and 1.8m web users, stocking 58m books, each year issuing 118m items, and acquiring £56m worth of new books

10.55 CILIP Consultancy Services The Business Case for Libraries CCS (CILIP Consultancy Services) will be giving a presentation on developing the business case for library and information services.  Often a new role for the LIS profession the issue of information value is coming under greater scrutiny by business managers and public services.  CCS considers how you can quantify the value of your service.
12.45 Ovid Technologies Into the Future: Products and services on show at Umbrella   Ovid Technologies announce a raft of new services and products for 2005. New services include SearchSolver (our federated search solution), unique OpenURL linking functions, and enhancements to both the Ovid and SilverPlatter search interfaces.
