Umbrella
awards dinner
Supporting
the conference was the launch of the prestigious Umbrella Awards
Dinner, which acknowledged outstanding achievements within all sectors
of the Library Profession. This new event was held on Thursday
30 June 2005 in the Barnes Wallis Restaurant with more than 300
people in attendance. The formal dinner was followed by the
presentations of awards by a number of special interest groups
The evening
was seen as a real celebration of achievements with more than 6
special interest groups offering awards as well as the presentation
of CILIP's first successful candidates to achieve ACLIP certification
made in library and information work by para-professionals.

best article in Impact magazine, presented by the Career
Development Group went to:
- John Miller, Assistant Librarian, Corporate Communication,
MOD
The
Organisational Change Award presented
by the Diversity Group went to:
- Winner - Black Country Libraries in Partnership,
for the Basic ICT Skills for All project
- Highly Commended - Lincolnshire Library Services,
for their Multicultural Development Service project.
The
Personal Achievement Award presented
by the Diversity Group went to:
- Winner - Jagit Kohli, Multicultural Librarian,
Warwickshire County Council
- Highly Commended - Nasreen Akhtar, for the project
'Our Untold Stories'.
The
Government Library and Information Group Award
presented by the Government Libraries Group went to:
- Heather Taylor, Director, Information Policy
and Services, Department of Trade and Industry and
- Liz MacLachlan, student, John Moores University
The
Tony Kent Strix Award presented by
the UK eInformation Group went to:
- Jack Mills, researcher and writer on Classification
